The beaches south of Lima are the destination over the summer months, and although they have their year round residents, there is a huge influx of Peruvians and tourists from December through to Easter. Some go for the day, others the weekend, and for some children their entire summer holiday.
However, it’s not just the beaches that draw in the crowds, there are plenty of delicious places to eat that will grab your attention too, plus a location or two to dance away until the wee hours. There are obviously more venues than I am putting in this guide, but these are the spots that keep me coming back for more year after year. Plus, I used to live in Punta Hermosa, which means I’ve definitely had time to try a number of locations and really narrow them down to my absolute faves.
The southern beaches are actually made up of many districts, however due to the small number of places I’ve chosen, I decided to group them all together under one umbrella. As always, I’ve put together a handy Google map to help you find them all! Here is the link: https://www.google.com/maps/placelists/list/1K1RDNfbvI3vMlqEXTfI6iZyCIWQ
I’ve gone as far down the coast as Asia, as it is one of the main destinations for holidaymakers during the summer months. I’ve also placed the towns and locations in order as they appear on the map. Continue reading
On Saturday mornings the BioFeria sets up on 15 de Enero, a road that runs alongside Parque Reducto No 2 in Miraflores. It’s an organic and eco market selling everything from fruit and veg to items made from Peruvian cotton.
There are dedicated fruit and veg stands where you can buy your weekly groceries, stands to buy different kinds of flours (purple corn, maca etc) and grains, stands for oils (sacha inchi, olive, coconut etc), and stands that sell wooden toys and cotton bags and clothing. It’s the place I go to buy proper oats as you only normally get the instant kind in the supermarket. I try and visit every few months and stock up on at least that! Continue reading
Wicks is an English pub in the heart of Lima brewing and serving up traditional British style beers and pub grub, and it truly makes me feel like I’m back at home.
There are so many places in Barranco that I still need to try, so this is actually a much smaller list than it should be. I have the longest checklist of places to visit but there just isn’t enough time to visit them all. We have some firm favourites here that we keep getting drawn back to time and again, and we forget to try new spots. Probably a good problem to have though! If you have any favourites, please let me know in the comments below.
This following guide is to go alongside my List on Google Maps, ‘Emma’s Barranco Highlights’. It explains my choices in more detail and shares any extra information I may have posted before. Links for the different locations are available through the map and I hope this helps give you some inspiration for your next trip to Barranco.

This is the first neighbourhood guide for my favourite locations in Lima and it’s about the district of Miraflores. There are so many amazing places to see here, so the list is pretty long. However, there are always places for me to add as new places pop up, so don’t forget to check back!

It just explains my choices in slightly more detail and shares any extra information I may have written previously. Links for the different locations are available through the map. Happy January everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and that you’re looking forward to a great 2017.
My family back in the UK have had some super cold, frosty days recently, while in contrast we’re experiencing the hottest January for 19 years I believe!! It’s crazy hot and humid and the only thing that makes it bearable is ice cream. A lot of ice cream!
I know that Lima is not the first place you would think of when booking your Christmas holidays, but if you do happen to find yourself here over the festive period there are some locations that keep the Christmas spirit going throughout December!! It really helps being away from my family over Christmas if I can find places that fill me with seasonal cheer or remind me of home, so here are my picks for doing just that.
Mistura has finished for another year and I want to share some of my favourite parts with you and also a little bit of some of my not-so-favourite, to give you a view of this year’s offerings!
We’ll start with a little overview….. Continue reading
I know, I know, it’s like the 6th of December, and this post is very delayed…..
I’ve been super busy organising for my trip in a couple of weeks and my posts seem to have fallen further and further down the list of things to do. I promise to improve! Really, I do!
So without further ado, here is the lowdown on what happened in November…
THIS MONTH I HAVE BEEN …
Happy Halloween everybody!
Well, it’s a little late, but never mind!
How did you celebrate? Did you dress up as a skeleton or the walking dead, or did you stay in and watch scary movies? Did you eat all of the Halloween sweets you bought for the trick or treaters, like I did (oops!)? Whatever you did, I hope you had a ton of fun!
This month has been pretty quiet on the eating and outings front, as I’m saving both money and my appetite for when my parents come and visit in November. So excited! It’s been nearly a year since I’ve seen them, so I can’t wait!
So, because of this, you’ll notice the ‘Eating’ section is missing for October, and that the ‘Watching’ section has more than doubled in size!! I had to keep myself occupied somehow…..
THIS MONTH I HAVE BEEN…
I was told that Wong‘s Expo Vino was the best wine tasting event in Latin America as fact by one of the people working for the event, and to be honest I absolutely believe it.
