Festive party season is upon us and everyone is searching for that perfect place for their work/friends Christmas dinner. If you fancy something a little different then booking a Peruvian fusion Christmas menu could be just what you need.
At first glance they may not seem Christmassy in a traditional British sense of the word but by using a combination of great British and Peruvian ingredients they truly make a feast. And after all, isn’t that what food at Christmas is all about? Sharing it family style and feasting to celebrate the wintertime. It all sounds delicious to me.
Peruvian food is also a fab option if you have a vegetarian in your party as the cuisine has so many options to choose from. Gluten free diets are also catered to as well!
I’ve not tried any of these specific menus (they are just suggestions for you), but I have chosen restaurants that I have actually visited over the last few years, so that I know how great the quality and ambience is!
So, without further ado let me give you some feasting contenders….

I’ve been super busy organising for my trip in a couple of weeks and my posts seem to have fallen further and further down the list of things to do. I promise to improve! Really, I do!
So without further ado, here is the lowdown on what happened in November…

My birthday is my favourite day of the year aside from Christmas. I get to choose everything we do for the day and no one can tell me off for eating cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner….
This has been a great month, well at least the end of it! August is my birthday and I always celebrate it with huge excitement, as I have done ever since I was about 4 years old. This year was no exception, and like most years it revolves around how much amazing food I can eat.
I spent my actual birthday in 4 different restaurants, and then the following day I made an English tea party extravaganza for all my Peruvian friends, and it was an absolute blast. Sunday was all about relaxation, cake and champagne….
THIS MONTH I HAVE BEEN …
Sunday lunches are my kind of lunches. Long, lazy and with a lot of food.
And at The Marriott, ‘a lot of food’ is just what they’re offering.
The Marriott Hotel is situated just behind the Malecon (the path that follows the clifftop) and Larcomar shopping centre in Miraflores, and their restaurant ‘La Vista’ has beautiful views of the ocean in front of it.
La Vista has 4 types of buffet throughout the week; breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea (amazing) and a Sunday lunch buffet.
Seeing as the blog is taking a trip across the ocean and back to my homeland of Britain, I thought it only right to make my first post a Peruvian one.
Virgilio Martinez is a well known Peruvian chef and opened an extremely successful restaurant here in Lima called Central, which is currently ranked at number 15 in the world and number 1 in Latin America. Fortunately for the UK, he took his skills to London and opened Lima which has also been a huge success and has even received a highly coveted Michelin Star. Lima has been so successful in London that Virgilio recently opened a second restaurant in Covent Garden called Lima Floral.
I was lucky enough in December last year to be able to visit the original Lima restaurant, just off of Oxford Street in the heart of London (thanks Dad!!)
When I first moved to Peru, aside from one friend (an amazing girl I met on my flight home from Peru on my first trip), my boyfriend, and his family, I didn’t really know anyone. All my English friends existed on Skype & WhatsApp, plus being on a 5/6 hour time difference.
Thank goodness I eventually met Vanessa. She is the sort of person that you just have to find if you move to a new country. We’ve not only become great friends, but also each others language teacher, therapist and food eating partner-in-crime!
This week we decided to catch up over lunch in La Preferida, an amazing hub for seafood dishes in Lima.
Sundays are days for relaxing.
Days for Skype-ing. For eating. For drinking. And then later, for lying in bed with Netflix.
I love Sundays. And I love Tanta.
Tanta is one of Gaston Acurio’s restaurant chains, with a few branches within Lima and Peru, and then the rest dotted across the globe, even as far afield as Barcelona. For those who may not know, Gaston is an ambassador for Peruvian cuisine and has helped to promote it, alongside other chefs, all over the world. He has been a big influence in Peru gaining worldwide accolades for their incredible food scene, both in the restaurants and the raw ingredients that are produced here.
Tanta serves typical, traditional Peruvian (or Peruvian fusion) cuisine, but often in a modern way. However, just because Tanta was started by Gaston and is very fresh and modern, does not mean the restaurant is overly fancy or expensive. The dishes here are not tiny morsels in the middle of large plates, which is obviously perfect for me, and the prices are so reasonable (main dishes are between S/25 and S/50).
Due to the fact that it is summer in Lima, restaurants are normally fairly empty as everyone heads to the nearby beaches. However, arriving at 2pm, we found Tanta its normal, popular, busy self.
